DIGITAL DISPATCH FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Data Doctors Digital Dispatch?

DIGITALDISPATCH is Data Doctors method of providing valuable information to computer users. DIGITALDISPATCH uses a technology commonly called 'RSS' or 'Feeds' to distribute breaking news, virus alerts, recall warnings and other computer-related information. DIGITALDISPATCH has several advantages over e-mail and other broadcast forms of communication because it works in a 'pull' method instead of e-mail's 'push'. What this means is that the information provided by DIGITALDISPATCH is immune to the problems that make e-mail so hard to use.

Data Doctors uses DIGITALDISPATCH to keep you up-to-date with all the important information we release on a periodic basis. All of our feeds are automatically added to the DIGITALDISPATCH Reader, you can view them by clicking on the feed name in the list to the left of your DIGITALDISPATCH window. A complete list of Data Doctors feeds can be found in the box to the right.

For more advanced users, DIGITALDISPATCH is a full-featured News Reader and Podcast Client. It supports all major feed formats, including RSS 1.0 (RDF), RSS 2.0 and Atom.

Why is Digital Dispatch installed on my computer?

If you are wondering why DIGITALDISPATCH is installed on your computer, chances are that you recently had your computer serviced at a Data Doctors location. Data Doctors installs DIGITALDISPATCH on the computers we service to help keep their owners informed of important computer news and alerts. Responding to, and protecting against new viruses, spyware or other malicious software is a battle against time. The sooner you know about the threat, the better situated you are to defeat it. DIGITALDISPATCH is the quickest and easiest method of distributing that information. In most cases, you will be notified of the threat within one hour of its identification.

Data Doctors guarantees that DIGITALDISPATCH is spyware-free and is generally safe to install on your computer (installing any software on an unstable machine is a quick way to complicate your problems). However, if you want to remove DIGITALDISPATCH from your system, simply click Start >> Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs icon. Locate Data Doctors Digital Dispatch in the list, click on it, and press the Change/Remove button. If you change your mind, you can always download the latest from the box to the right.

How do I delete content or unsubscribe?

To delete content and unsubscribe from a content channel, you simply highlight the channel title in the Folder Panel (left side panel), and click on the red "X" icon in the top menu. If you want to keep the channel but clear all topics within that channel, you can right click your mouse while highlighting the channel you want to clear, and select "Clear Channel". To delete all topics but keep channels intact, right click and select "Clear All Channels".

If you want to delete individual topics from within a content channel, simply highlight the topic in the Channel Panel (top right) and right-click on your mouse to select "Delete A Topic". Under the "View / Preferences" pull-down menu, you can also indicate how often content should be deleted from Tristana (e.g. every 30 days is the default).

I get a "Error reading index of channel" or "Stream read error" error message.

In this case, your data file may be broken.

  • Export your channels to an OPML file (File >> Export Channels)
  • Close DIGITALDISPATCH
  • Find the 'My Data Doctors Digital Dispatch' folder in your My Documents folder, and delete it
  • Restart DIGITALDISPATCH
  • If necessary, import your channels from the OPML file you saved (File >> Import Channels)
